Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Robson's expertise is in the area of pesticides and agricultural practices that impact occupational health and the environment. Research and teaching responsibilities include applicator exposure to pesticides, pesticide training and pesticide safety. Additional work has been done on pesticide residue analysis and food safety as well as policy implications from the use of pesticides.


Dr. Robson's primary responsibilities in the last sixteen years have been administrative, involving planning, personnel, budget management, and program evaluation.



Summary of Experience:


Executive Director, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Rutgers University, Piscataway, N.J. April 1993-Present.

Initiate, develop and implement all administrative matters for the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI). Work with and coordinate administrative and scientific personnel at Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Serve as central coordinator for day to day building operations. Facilitate the effective integration of independent graduate programs in Toxicology, Public Health, Occupational Medicine Residency and Exposure Assessment. Work with the Director and Division Directors in the administration and oversight of an annual combined budget of over $27 million. Provide direction, guidance, and oversight to all administrative matters, equipment purchases, and project and contract administration. Develop and prepare EOHSI central budget, including, state, federal, foundation, and industrial support. Conduct research in the area of pesticide exposure, pesticide applicator training, and pesticide policy issues. Additional research and policy interests include environmental health issues in Central and Eastern Europe. Coordinate the Scientific Exchange Program at EOHSI for three to four environmental and occupational health scientists annually. Teach two courses annually in the New Jersey Graduate Program in Public Health.

Provided support and coordination for the implementation of interdisciplinary research and education in health and environmental sciences. Under the direction of the Secretary of Agriculture, provided leadership and guidance for the work program and staff of the Division of Regulatory Services whose primary responsibility was to direct the various programs to assure the quality of agricultural chemicals and farm products for the protection of consumers and to assure payment to producers of perishable agricultural products. Acted as the science technical advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture on environmental, pesticide and food safety issues. Served as the Secretary's representative on the Clean Air Council, as well as numerous councils and committees regarding regulations and public health and safety.


Deputy Director-Division of Rural Resources, New Jersey Department of Agriculture, Trenton, N.J. March 1989-October 1990.
Assisted in the administration, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the programs in the Rural Resources Division, which includes Soil and Water Conservation, Agricultural and Economic Development, Fisheries and Seafood Development, and the New Jersey Agricultural Statistical Service. Assisted in the management and supervision of Division personnel. Served as a technical resource for environmental, pesticide, and food safety issues. Initiated, directed and coordinated programs dealing with broad rural public policy issues as they related to agriculture in rural and non-rural areas of New Jersey. Served as the Secretary of Agriculture's representative on the Clean Water Council, Clean Air Council, and Solid Waste Advisory Council.

Supervised Technical Evaluation and Monitoring Section of the Pesticide Control Program. Provided scientific support to Certification and Compliance Bureaus of the pesticide regulatory agency. Coordinated special projects for the Program in pesticide use, disposal, assessment and impact. Served as liaison for the Program to other state agencies, universities, and industry. Served as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager for the Program. Coordinated computer and database projects.


Extension Pesticide Coordinator, New Jersey Cooperative Extension Service-Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. July 1981-March 1985.
Developed and administered an educational program in the proper use of pesticides and pesticide applicator certification. Coordinated a statewide pesticide impact assessment program. Served as liaison and provided assistance to various state agencies with regard to pest control and pesticide use.
