JGPT: The Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology
Ronald E. White, Ph. D.

Dr. White is head of the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics Department at the Schering-Plough Research Institute. His function is to provide information on the animal and human metabolism, disposition and pharmacokinetics of investigational molecules to support their selection for clinical development and their registration as new medicines with worldwide regulatory authorities. In addition, Dr. White conducts basic research in the following areas:

(1) CYP induction – homology modeling of the Constitutively Active Receptor (CAR): crystallography of the Pregnane X Receptor (PXR); creation and evaluation of expressed reporter-gene models CYP induction;

(2) intestinal absorption mechanisms of drugs;

(3) reactive metabolites of drugs;

(4) pharmacokinetic theory.
