Elisa V. Bandera, MD, PhD

Dr. Elisa V. Bandera is an epidemiologist with a focus on the nutritional epidemiology of cancer. She is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.s Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the School of Public Health, and a member of the graduate faculty at Rutgers University.s Department of Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Bandera is conducting several studies evaluating risk factors for cancers of endometrium, ovary, and breast. She is also leading The Jersey Girl Study, a study examining environmental factors and puberty in girls. Dr. Bandera serves as Vice Chair of the Advisory Group for Cancer Prevention and Control of the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research, and leads the Nutrition and Physical Activity Workgroup of the New Jersey Task Force on Cancer Prevention, Early Detection, and Treatment. Dr. Bandera served as a member of the American Cancer Society.s 2006 Committee on Nutrition and Physical Activity Guidelines for Cancer Prevention. She was also involved in the World Cancer Research Fund International/American Institute for Cancer Research.s Second Report on Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Cancer (www.wcrf.org). Dr. Bandera has also served on several grant review panels, including the National Cancer Institute Initial Review Group Subcommittee J for Population and Patient-Oriented Training, the American Institute for Cancer Research Grant Review Panel I, and the World Cancer Research Fund International Panel on Biomarkers Research. Dr. Bandera earned an MD degree from the University of Malaga, Spain and a PhD in Epidemiology and Community Health from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
