Michael Gochfeld MD, PhD, is a professor of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at RWJMS. He is an occupational physician and environmental toxicologist, and a member of the graduate programs in Toxciology and in Ecology and Evolution. He served as co-chair of the Division of Environmental and Occupatiaonl Health at the UMDNJ-School of Public Health. He teaches toxicology and risk assessment, and is the course director for the first year medical student course: Epidemiology, statistics and Prevention. He also directs the Occupational/Environmental Medicine residency, one of the EOHSI graduate programs. His research areas are in clinical exposure assessment, medical preparedness for disasters, and heavy metal toxic effects on development and neurobehavioral toxicology. He has been a principal in the Consortium for Risk Evaluation with Stakeholder Participation which studies on environmental and human health risks related to the Department of Energy’s former nuclear weapons plants. His current work is funded mainly by the Department of Energy and the NJ Department of Enviromental Protection.
